While waiting for the train in the subway, I was standing at a corner reading my book and listening to my iPod, ignoring all the buzz around me. I looked up after reading a few sentences to see the train has arrived and boarded it when someone pushed me from the back, which I had nearly fell.
I regained my balance and looked right back at the person who pushed me. It was a nerd guy, tall with an average physique, and he had quite a refined face for a nerd. He looked at me, saying something which I didn't really hear but I think he was apologizing so I didn't care and went ahead into the cabin with open seats.
He too, sat beside me and I didn't really gave any thoughts, continued reading my book. I was immersed in the book, until I felt something or rather, someone beside me just laid on my shoulders. "Ugh, this guy's heavy." I thought. I didn't know what I should do, I tried pushing him with my elbow but he wouldn't budge. I kept my book and took one side of my earphone off, the train announced my destination, I should be getting off. I tapped him several times and there were still no response, giving up, I was about to stand when he suddenly jumped up awake and looked at me.
"Sorry. I fell asleep." he gave a shy smile. I just smiled lightly and nodded, thinking that I was lucky that i didn't have to do anything to embarrass him. I got up and walked out of the cabin. From the station to my apartment, it was about a 30 minutes walk, so I went to the convenience store to get a bottle of milk.
The cool night breeze was blowing onto my face and it feels great. Looking at a few others on the road on their way, I thought to myself, is everyone else going home or going to somewhere else? Silly of me thinking about these, while my thoughts wandered, my head suddenly hurt a little.
Suddenly, someone grabbed me to the sides. While it happened, I was still feeling giddy and saw a shadow past by quickly. "Must have been a cyclist, someone had helped me?" I thought. Someone was saying something but I couldn't really make it what he said so I just said thank you. Then my earphones were pulled out, and I hear the guy saying "Are you sure you're alright? Miss, you look really pale!"
"I'll be fine in awhile. Thank you." I replied, not looking at him since I still feel giddy and all. He didn't say anything and went off. I stood there for awhile breathing in and out. Then something warm was pushed into my hands. "Drink it, it'll help." the guy came back and said.
"Oh, don't worry, I just bought it from the convenience store, it wasn't expensive nor was it drugged." he said and laughed dryly. "Ummm, thanks." I replied. How weird is this to have such a kind person to go such lengths I thought to myself and drank a little. I drank a little and I remembered buying milk awhile ago. Where did it go? I looked at the guy still standing beside me, only realizing he was wet from the milk I bought earlier. Oh good lord, the poor guy.
"I am so sorry... I didn't realize the milk I bought earlier had splashed onto you. Thank you for helping me. Umm..." I apologized and looked at the guy only to realize it was the same guy in the train who slept ony my shoulder.
I must look shock or something since he explained, "I wasn't stalking you... It just happened that I had to come this way and this all happened." I just stared at the guy for awhile before I replied, "Alright, just a coincidence, thanks nice guy."
"Henry, name's Henry. Are you already better?" he said in a concerned voice. "Yes, very much. I am alright now. Thank you very much, Henry." I smiled replying. "So, what's your name? You already know mine." he said cheekily. What, maybe he isn't some nerd, he's some super player pretending to be a nerd. "Uhhhhh... Miya. Umm. Thanks again Henry, I'll be fine, really." I replied, trying to hint him that I don't need him to cling onto me.
"Sure, Miya. No worries on that." he cheerfully replied and was about to turn and leave. "Oh, by the way, I've recently moved into this area, do you mind if we walked together? I live by upfront 2 more blocks down the road." he suddenly stopped and said to me.
Same block as me? I've never seen him though, this is weird. I was thinking what to do when he said, "I'm not trying anything, seriously. The landlady's, Jeslyn. I've just moved in a week. So i'm sort of a new face around here." ".... ok." i replied while walking forward, since he was right with the landlady's name, but still wary of him.
On the way, we didn't bother to say anything else. Walking beside him, I felt a little intimidated as he was taller than me and it felt pressurizing since passerby keeps looking at both of us, or probably just him since his clothes were wet. We reached the building and I was going to have him go in first but it seems he actually knew that I lived in the block as well since he asked why I wasn't going in.
Again, I stared at him, puzzled. He probably saw that my face was written r-a-g-e, so he quickly said" Ok, ok. I'm sorry. I actually knew you lived here and I wasn't lying when I said moved in recently. I actually saw you a few times here already, so it wasn't any coincidence when we walked the same road. But it really was coincidence that I bumped into you in the subway and my walking back. So..."
I stared at him all the way, trying to digest what he said, so I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings since discharged from the hospital, huh. "Well, whatever. Good night." I just replied coldly to him. I didn't look back to him and went straight for the elevator. I could feel him still right behind me, so I asked him which floor he was staying. "Well, actually, I stay on the same floor as you, one door across yours." he replied.
"Huh, that close but I've never seen you before." I gasped with surprise. Awkwardly, he said "Well, I'm a nerd and I'm usually in my room. I've only seen you when you went out and we've never really made any eye contact so I guess it's common that you didn't notice me..."
I must have hurt him I guess. Since he got quiet all the way when we reached the level, even to my doorstep. I turned and said," Good night, Henry. It's not your fault, its just me who don't notice my surroundings." Without waiting for him to give any answer, I opened the door and when I was going in, I heard him saying that he knows and bid me good night.
What was that? He knows? Somehow, that bugged me slightly but I didn't bother to give it some thought until much much later.
It was a great time to hang out with them once again. But while eating, Miya was reminded of the old days. She felt something warm and happiness. Then, she felt she forgot something important but she couldn't remember. The pain in her head didn't let her remember. The fragment of the memories that was broken. Will once again come back and place the piece together.
"Owwww... " said Miya. "Are you alright? You look a little plae all of a sudden." Frida noticed. "I'm alright, don't worry. It just acts up sometimes. So you were talking about?" replied Miya. "Yea, I was saying maybe we could all take a break and go outta country for a little trip, whaddhya say?" Frida was excited. The rest was rather excited and were chatting amongst themselves. "I may not be able to go."Kiyo said plainly, as ever. "Why? Don't tell me it's work." Frida asked. "No, it isn't that. It's just... I'm getting married..." Kiyo said. That was a sudden confession from her mouth. Everyone was stunned. "Kiyo! Are you for real?!" Frida exclaimed. "That's sudden!" Ginnie and Lynette said. "Who's that unlucky man? Hahaha!" Beatrice jokingly asked. "No one here would know him, you'll see." Kiyo replied with a tinge of happiness. "Really, that was unseen. You never mention anything about your personal life, even to us. This must be some serious guy." Frida teased Kiyo a little. "Hahah, really... I wonder myself, but no doubt that I'll be his wife." Kiyo smiled as seh replied. I think that was the only time after so long that I've seen her smile like that. It was the smile of happiness.
The dinner became a congratulatory dinner for Kiyo's engagement although we were actually reminiscing the past as well as a gathering dinner. We had all been more conscious of our time since we had different schedules and had separated after dinner. I didn't want to go home yet and so, I went to the park nearby with a cup of tea. The night breeze was really cooling and a little chilly. I sat upon the bench and looked up in the sky. I was gazing it blankly as I still felt a little pain in my head. After about 15 minutes, I picked myself and head back home.
"Welcome! Good evening, ladies. For how many person?" the waitress addressed us. "For ... 6 pax please. Oh! Can you get us the booth seats please?" Frida quickly told the waitress. "Sure. Please hold on while I make arrangements for your seats." the waitress threw those words and walked off. "Sure brings memories back, don't you think?" Frida asked. "Yea, sure does. How long has it been when we met up in such a large group?" I asked. "I think it's almost a year since the last one." said Lynette. "Wow! That's pretty long." Ginnie said. "We're all working women already. It's no surprise." Kiyo added. "You're the same as always, Kiyo! So realist." Frida joked. "Whatever." Kiyo replied coldly. We all laughed out. Just then, the waitress came back and brought us to the table. "Can I get you our house drinks first?" asked the waitress. Everyone was busy looking at the menu, so I told her to come back later. I knew that they'd definitely get a drink each for themselves since it has always been that way. I decided on what I wanted already so I was looking around the restaurant. I thought it didn't change much ever since the first time I visited when I was still in mid-school. "Hey, anyone decided yet?" Frida broke the silence. "I'm all done. Heheh." I laughed. "Well, that's for sure since you already had your menu on the table sometime ago." Frida taunt me. "Hahah! Of course. She'd always go for the today's special or the new item." Ginnie said. "Yep yep! Never changes her old habits." Lynette added in. "Not to mention all of us here." Kiyo added. "Yea, yea yea. So you all slowpokes done? At least order drinks first while waiting for the 2 superwomen." Frida said annoyingly. "Yea, sure. I want Rainbow Sparkles." Lynette quickly said. "Orange juice." Kiyo said. "Island shake for me." Ginnie added. "Alright, I'm getting Treasure Isle. And Miya, C1000." Frida said. "You got it. Hahaha." I laughed. Everyone also laughed and Frida gestured for the waitress to come over to take the order for the drinks. "I think I better give Carol and Beatrice a call." I took my phone out and called Beatrice first. Beatrice didn't pick up, so I proceeded to call Carol. Carol picked up almost immediately. "Hello? Miya? I'm so sorry! I'm... I'm uhhh..." Carol said. Not waiting for her to finish, I cut her off. "Carol. You can't make it?" I asked. "Oh uummmmm.... Yea... I'm sorry. Josheathe's sick and my husband's on OT tonight. Let the others know that I'm terribly sorry? Please?" Carol pleaded me. "Carol. I know you well enough. Don't worry about it. We'll meet another time. Make sure Josheathe's well, yea?" I told her. "Oh Miya... Thanks. Take care, keep in touch alright? Oh, and ummm sorry for not visiting you in hospital." Carol apologised. "Don't worry about it. It wasn't serious. Yea, keep in touch and take care! Bye!" I replied. The girls were all giving the face that looked like "what? Not again.". After hanging, I called back to Beatrice again. She picked up after the 2nd ring. "Hellooooo? I'm reaching the entrance, someone pick me up?" Beatrice said impatiently. "Miya here, we'll be welcoming you.... By waving at you!" I replied her. I gestured the others to wave their hands towards the entrance. "Ok, I'm hanging. Come over." I said. We could see that Beatrice was embarassed and that she was a little nervous. "Thanks for the waaaaarrrrrrrrrrrmmmmm welcome." Beatrice said sarcasticly. We all laughed out.
"Javier!" I shouted as I caught up with him by the entrance of the hospital. He looked amazed and stood there. "Thank you. Thank you for everything. I remembered everything in a flash so... I'm kinda confused myself. But I remember... It was you... The one who saved me... The one who held my hands... The one who called out to me..." I said to him. "Yeah..." he replied simply with a smile. I was reliefed and my heart was throbbing. I knew I had fell for this guy. I knew but yet I didn't know anything about him. But I couldn't contain how I felt. Without thinking, I reached for his face and kissed him.
Javier was surprised by my action. He grabbed me by my shoulders and asked if I was joking around with him. I looked straight into his eyes and shook my head. "Why would I be?" I questioned. He looked at me as if he was trying to see through me. Then, like he gave up, he shrugged and said, "Nothing". "Maybe it's only me, but I can feel it from you. And I hope to see you again..." I left those words and went back. He didn't gave chase. I told myself it was alright even if he didn't had the same feelings. Additionally, I knew I'd see him again.
After that day, he didn't visit me. So I was discharged, without seeing him again and not knowing any of his contact details. I went back home which was quite a distance by cab. Someone was home, who could it be? It has been left vacant for sometime since my family were all independent and loved individuality, so I was the only one occupying the flat. Thinking I might get the wrong house or something may be amiss, I pressed the doorbell. "Who is it?" a voice came from the other side of the door. I didn't know what I should say. "Urmmmm... Excuse me. May I see the flat-owner please?" I asked. "Hold on." the person said. Immediately after that, the door opened. "Hey! Look who's back?!" the girl exclaimed. "Kaye! When did you move back?!" I said happily. "Come in first, we'll chat over lunch." she said. I went into the apartment, nothing much changed. "Go put your things in your room and wash up first, I'm almost done making lunch." Kaye said. I went to my room to see that it was neatly cleaned and organized. I tucked my bag away and took my towel and sportswear out. Just when I was going to walk out, I saw pictures lining neatly on the wall. I browsed at each of the photos. There were a few photos that was taken with a man. Who was he? I couldn't remember at all. I'll ask Kaye later when I'm done showering. It really is good to be home, warm and cozy.
"We're ready to eat, Miya!" Kaye shouted. "Just the right timing! I'm done showering too." I answered as I walked out of the shower. I sat in front of her in the dining room. "Miya, are you all better already?" Kaye looked at me worriedly. "Of course I am. If not, how am I able to be discharged and be home talking to you right now?" I laughed. "Hahah. That's you alright. Anyway, I came back when I received the call from the hospital. You had me worried then. I thought you'd... Oh... seriously.." Kaye was upset. "I'm fine now, so don't fret about what's happened. Oh by the way, there are some photos in my room that are taken with a guy. You have any idea who he is?" I tried to change the subject. "You... don't remember him?" Kaye looked kind of surprised questioning me. "Yea, I don't remember. I tried, but can't remember at all. Is he my boyfriend? 'Cause in the photos we were really kind of intimate." I told her truthfully. "Well... He's a friend of yours. Yea... He was quite a close one... You were always together... " Kaye replied but it sounded like she was trying to convince herself as she spoke softer. "Hey, what's up with you? Why are you talking like that if he was my close friend? So was he my boyfriend afterall?" I was curious to know. "Oh... Hhahaahaha... Sorry, come on. You know, I was kind of jealous since he was quite a hot guy. And both of you hung around each other like honey and bees, so yea... But too bad he had to migrate and you were both busy that you lost contact." Kaye answered. "Hmmmm... I see. Well, that's too bad then. Hahaha. But lucky! Let's dig in!" I was relieved to know that I was single. "Lucky? Why? You have someone in mind?" Kaye was curious. "Hahahah... well...." I explained to her over lunch. Kaye was rather surprise and she told me she didn't know about the guy since she couldn't visit me often in the hospital due to her work. And the time she went to visit was always after work or her off-days. She said that the nurses didn't mention it to her either. She told me that she was going to be back for good and that Dad and Mom are still at their plot of small land of farm, having a happy, relaxed retiree life. She also mentioned that she was working and hasn't got a boyfriend yet. But I could see she was doing well with her life.
As for me, I didn't think much of what I should do. So I gave a call to my company which I was working then. My boss said to go back to work as soon as I could if I wanted. I told them that I would go back on the coming Monday, which was only like 2 days away. My boss agreed with the arrangement and said to make sure that I'm feeling well. Also, just to be sure, he would be asking a colleague to drive me over to the company. I rejected the offer but he insisted that I go along his arrangement so I accepted it. Now that I'm done with the arrangements for my work, I should go get myself some entertainment. I called some of my friends up to date them. But only a handful could meet for dinner tonight, so I said to meet somewhere we frequented and nearby all of us. The date's at around 6PM, so I still have about 4 hours.
Since my room was kept clean, I didn't have to tidy anything, so I checked out the fridge. I was amazed at how empty the fridge was when I opened to check. I went to call Kaye in her room and asked her whether she wants to go together to get some groceries. So we changed out and went to the nearby supermart. We bought alot of stuffs. In fact, I think we bought food enough for a months' worth for 4. We were pratically buying blindly which mostly were junk food and wine. Anyway, we could finish all those food likely in less than a months' time. When we were done with the groceries, we went to check out the music store, bookstore and then to the apparels. We were spending like mad. But both of us were happy since we really didn't do this in ages. By the time we were done, it was already 5.30pm. Luckily, Kaye drove or I'd be late for the dinner date. I left the organizing to Kaye and I kept all the food in the cupboard.
It was almost 6 by the time I was done. Luckily I was already dressed and as I was going out, Kaye said she had a date too and she'd drive me. So I was saved. When I got there, only a few of them had reached. "Been waiting long?" I asked. "No, we were just here lest than a minute." Frida spoke first. Everyone was looking at me. "What's wrong? I look like an alien?" I asked. "N-no. Of course not, we all heard that you were in an accident?" Ginnie replied. "Yea... Good to see ya." Kiyo smiled. "You're as good as the last we saw you." Lynette said. "You people, seriously. Did any of you even visited her when I told you all about it?!" Frida was a bit angry. "Oh Frida. It's alright, everyone. It's nothing serious anyway. What matters is that I'm alright. Hahaha." I said, laughing. Everyone smiled and gave me a pat like the old days. "We're just missing 2 more person, right?" Frida asked. "Yea, Beatrice and Carol. Said they'd be here but would be late." I answered. "How about we go into the restaurant first. It'd get crowded if we are to wait for them outside." Frida suggested. We all agreed and went into the restaurant.
I found myself in a dark place. I could feel the chill and dense air. Even though I couldn't see, for some reason, I was walking forward. Continuously, walking. Then, I heard a voice calling my name. Who? Who's calling me? I followed the voice as it grew louder but when I was near, I couldn't hear it anymore. I shouted for sometime for that voice to respond, but to no avail. I thought maybe I should continue to walk since I'm sure to meet that voice again. So I continued to walk. Just as I took a step, a bright blinding light came out of nowhere. It came to a white, where I couldn't see anything. My eyes finally got used to the light. And what I saw was the streets of the town. I walked around thinking about what just happened but I couldn't make anything out of it. Suddenly, there was a car in high speed heading my way. Before I could even react, the car had already crashed into me. I opened my eyes to see my view was on the ground. I must've fell to the floor. I tried to get up. My arm, and legs were bruised. And blood was running down from my head. I felt dizzy and also, my vision was blurry. I walked a few steps and all I could see then, was darkness. I could feel the cold hard cemented floor. It must mean that I fell again. Just then, I heard a voice. It's that voice again. He's calling me not to sleep. But I'm too tired and my eye lids felt too heavy for me to open my eyes. All I could hear was that man's voice. Calling out to me and his warm hands holding onto me. I tried my best opening my eyes. I saw a figure with bright lights. How beautiful, I said.
Once again, I was in the darkness. I heard people talking by me. I hear voices saying my name. I hear the same voice of that man's demanding me to wake up. I could feel the warmth of someone's hand clasping mine. But each and everytime, it was short. And each time, the voice would always say the same thing. And that pair of hands, would always be clasping mine. I wonder, who it could be. I tried to open my eyes. And everytime, I tried, I'd always see the same figure as when I saw. The one that I saw on my accident. Yes, that's right. That beautiful silhouette...
"Wait!" I shouted. I sat up, only to see that I was on the hospital bed. I must be dreaming. But what was all that? Was that really just a dream? Or was that... Oh... Wait... Did those things...? Ohhhh... I get it. Those must have happened when I was in a comatose. So, who was that man? He saved me...
"MIYA!" someone shouted by my ears. Only then did I realize that someone was beside me. I looked at the person. "Are you alright? Do you need me to get the doctor over?" he said. This voice... Now I remember! It's Javier. "You... You were the one... Weren't you?" I asked. "Miya... What are you saying? I was???" Javier was confused. "Javier. Thank you. I remembered everything." I told him. "You... you do? Are you feeling unwell?" Javier looked surprised. "Yeah... Thank you. I really do. You. You saved me and... you visited..." I looked at him. He didn't reply and just looked at me as though he felt he was responsible. "Not that look. I'm finally gonna get discharged and thanks to you! I'm well now. Hahah..." I smiled. He just nodded his head and looked down, not saying a word. "Don't feel responsible for it. It was partly my fault too. I wasn't looking and I was thinking about something else. The driver could be in a rush and he couldn't avoid me either. Well, now that I'm all better now. Let that be the past, alright?" I took his hands and said. Hmmm?! This familiar feeling. His hands! OH! Oh my! I looked at Javier's face. His face was slightly flushed, he quickly turned his face and pulled his hands out of mine. He stood up and turn towards the door. "See ya." He threw those words behind and walked off. I couldn't respond immediately. H-h-he... I didn't know what I was feeling. Was it joy or was gratitude or something else? I couldn't think of it. I only knew I should chase after him. I quickly got off bed and ran out.
The man who came in gave me a smile and walk over to my bedside. "U...Urm.... Do I know you?" I asked carefully. The man just stood there silently, with his clear blue eyes looking at me. "Were you by chance, in the garden the day before or were you waiting for me?" I proceed to ask hoping for his reply. He just shook his head lightly and pulled the chair and sat down. I didn't understand what he meant by shaking his head and why he didn't gave me any answers. So I just stared at his face. He didn't move any muscles at all. I felt embarassed after staring his face for a minute and turned away. "Hhhh... Ha... Hahaha..." the man laughed. I gave him a serious stare but to received a even exaggerated reaction. "Fine. Laugh all you want, I'll continue reading my book." I threw those words at him and took my book up to read. He kept his composure after what I said and took away the book from me. " I'm glad." He finally spoke. I don't understand why he said he was glad, and so I looked at him and answered," Why? Who are you?" "I'm Javier, do you remember?" he replied earnestly. "Of course I remember you! You spoke to me in the garden the day before by the bench, didn't you?" I replied immediately. "Yes." he said and showed signs of being dejected. "Urrmmm... Do I know you? I find you really familiar but I can't remember anything. Could you tell me?" I boldly asked without even thinking. Javier looked at me, not speaking, with those blue eyes that seemed dejected and nervous. Looking at how he looked, I affirmed him,"Sorry... if... I offeneded you in any way." Like he was thinking of what he should reply, he looked down and paused for a moment. "No... It's... nothing... So..." he murmured and paused again. "S-sure. Ummm... Javier? Were you the one who came by frequently? Well, I heard from the nurses, so..." I tried to assure him and divert from the topic. He didn't say anything but from what I could see, he should be the one.
Suddenly, I had a splitting headache and I fell towards him. He reacted quickly and caught me by his arms. Then, I remembered a scene from the accident, where I saw a figure running towards me, shouting something but all I could see was a silhouette holding onto me.
"Mi... Mi... Miya.. Miya! Can you hear me?!" someone shook me and shouted by my ear. "U--uhhhh Uhhhhhh Ye--yeaaa... I'm... I'm alright." I replied as I lifted my face to see Javier's close and worried face. I was shocked and I immediately shove him away and responded, "S-so-sorry, u-uhhhh th-th-thanks!" I bet my face was really red like a tomato even though I tried to hide my face from his eyes. "Miya... You... are you... alright?" he asked softly. I could feel his gaze upon my hot and red face but I couldn't turn to look at him in his eyes as I didn't want to let him see how embarrass I was, so I just nodded.
"...'Kay... Maybe I should visit another time." his voice sounded cold, somehow. The truth is, hearing him say that made me feel a little lonely but I just nodded. And just as he was walking off to the door, I regretted it. "Ja.... Jay? Hmmm???" just when I was to call out to him, something flashed in my mind.
It was the silhouette of the person holding onto me again. This time, I could make out what he was saying. "Hey! Hey! Miss! Hold out! Don't sleep! Come on! Open your eyes! Dammit!" the man shouted. I could feel the pain and also the numbness of my body was getting and how warm that man was. Then it was gone. "Uhhh-uhhh... Urghhhhh... What.... was that?" I mumbled to myself, thinking of what just happened. Something felt warm holding to me when the flashbacks were gone. I opened my eyes and saw myself buried in someone's chest. It was a familiar feeling and I could smell something from the shirt. Is that-- perfume? Men's perfume?
"ah-ahhhhh... excuse... me?" I spoke. The person let loose of me and looked at me. "Javier?" I thought he left. "I'll stay here." he looked worriedly at me and sat by my side. "It's ok... I just... had some flashbacks... I think...?" I replied weakly. Javier was obviously a little annoyed and he pulled the blanket over me to make me rest without speaking a single word. Seeing as how he behaved, I didn't say more and tried to sleep. I didn't know I fell alseep almost as soon as I laid down and I dreamt of something.
I didn't know whether I was truly dreaming or anything since it was pitch-black the entire time and I could only hear the voices of some people talking. There was the sound of the siren from ambulance and sounds of people murmuring and someone most probably around me saying like heart rate, blood type, pulse rate and such. There was someone saying "Someone took off after hitting her and... and she climbed up awhile after... but she fell unconcious short after by the traffic..." I am rather confused but after awhile, I was convinced that those were what I heard when I was losing conciousness. "She's getting delirious. Quick! Get a blood bag and inject aneasthetic! We got to save her! On the double! ER!" "Miss! Miss! Miya! Be strong!" was the last sentence I heard.
I opened my eyes. I sat up and looked around the room. Through the lights shining through the blinds from the outside, I could see Javier was asleep, on the sofa. Was he here the whole night? I looked at the time, 3am.. I slept for 8 hours, should I wake him up? No. I should just continue to sleep... But... As I looked over, I wanted to see his sleeping face. I had no idea why but I still went over and stared at his sleeping face. He looked like a little kid, smirking in his sleep. How adorable, I thought to myself. I was tempted to touch his face, so I gently brushed my fingertips on his cheeks down to his chin. His skin was rather smooth and cold... When I realized what I was doing, I was already smiling with my eyes glued on his face.
What am I doing?! I gasped and quickly stood up as I was walking away. I could hear Javier saying something, so I turned back and listened in but I couldn't make out anything except I heard a word "Sorry". Hmmm... He's apologising to someone? I couldn't do anything more and so, I went to sleep again.
When I woke up, it was already the next day. I can't believe I slept for so long. Just as I was going to the bathroom, someone knocked on the door. "Good morning! Are you awake? I'm coming in." a familiar voice came from the door. I haven't replied and the person had already flung the door wide open. This is... "Frida!" I shouted happily. "Oh how glad am I to see you finally awake, Miya!" Frida said with a bright smile. "Frida, let's talk over breakfast, shall we?" I asked. "Sure! Let's go to the cafeteria." Frida suggested.
Both of us were happily chatting all the way till the cafeteria and while we had our breakfast. As she had to work in the afternoon, she went off right after the breakfast. And I got to know alot of things which happened when i was in coma. I was told that I got involved in an accident by the road and the person responsible ran away, it was another person driving by who brought me to the hospital immediately. While i was walking back to the room thinking about what Frida had told me, I bumped onto Nurse April.
"Oh sorry, are you hurt anywhere? I wasn't looking." I quickly asked while picking her stuffs which was all over the floor. "Ms Miya! O-oh! Yea! I'm alright. Don't worry. I forgot to tell you something else. Could we go to your ward first?" She quickly picked everything up and pushed me into my wardroom. "U-ummm, Nurse April? Why are you--" without waiting for me to complete my sentence, she whispered hastily into my ear. "What?! There's a man visiting me everyday since the accident?! But I haven't seen him!" I raised my voice a little which surprised Nurse April. "Yea, and a Mr. Charmer at that I'd say. Some nurses here has fallen under his feet although no one has ever successfully asked for his number. I thought I should let you know since you've woken and probably may know him... He comes by everyday and would buy some flowers occasionally. But I think if you don't know him, you may need to be wary of him." Nurse April left after telling the gossip and warning to me.
Mr. Charmer? I thought to myself. THere's no way I'd know someone like that, or at least I can't remember. Luckily Frida brought me a book to read. It was a novel, about the life of a woman's life intertwined with a man she could never imagined to have met in their lives. I got addicted reading it and lost track of time until someone knocked and came into the ward.
It was a man. Hey, wait. Isn't he the man from yesterday in the garden? How did he...? Don't tell me nurse April was talking about this man?!
To be continued... CHapter 3: The Man Who Saved Me
While waiting for the train in the subway, I was standing at a corner reading my book and listening to my iPod, ignoring all the buzz around me.
